So I\u2019m going to make that commitment.\u201d<\/big><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; <\/em>Valorant<em> executive producer Anna Donlon.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Riot Games stepped into the first-person shooter world with the alpha release of <em>Valorant<\/em>, and while its previous MOBA haunt came with its own toxicity problems, addressing ways in which <em>Valorant<\/em> and its team can effectively deal with harassment and bullying is currently in Riot\u2019s crosshairs.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the <a href=\"https:\/\/beta.playvalorant.com\/en-us\/news\/game-updates\/03-on-in-game-player-behavior-and-server-infrastructure\/\">subject of the latest blog<\/a> from <em>Valorant<\/em> executive producer Anna Donlon and game director Joe Ziegler, and it&#8217;s one that talks through the realities of some anti-toxcicity tools in a way other game developers might find enlightening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be super real here: harassment and bullying in games is not a status quo I\u2019m comfortable accepting,\u201d writes Donlon. \u201cI replied to a colleague\u2019s tweet last month about my fears of solo-queuing, a problem I\u2019ve had for many years of multiplayer gaming. And I\u2019m not alone. We\u2019ve learned to mute others who are harassing us. We\u2019ve learned to mute ourselves in order to keep the peace. And as a result, we have a competitive experience that can feel compromised. We often find ourselves at a disadvantage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Donlon explains that battling toxicity in <em>Valorant<\/em> is a long-term priority for both her and the team as a whole, but that \u201cthis is a very hard space to take on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t solve society, and some of these issues are really deeply entrenched,\u201d says Donlon.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Valorant<\/em>\u2019s currently early stages, she says this means publishing a code of conduct in the near future to set expectations for the community and work with players to ensure that standard is met.
