Earlier this week, Nintendo rolled out Version 1.2.0<\/a> of Animal Crossing: New Horizons<\/a><\/strong>. It added Leif, Redd, new seasonal events, and the ‘Bank of Nook<\/a>‘ even lowered the interest rate for all savings accounts. These weren’t the only significant changes, though.<\/p>\n

Twitter user and data miner Ninji<\/a> has discovered some rather big changes to bug spawn rates. The code within this update suggests the spawn rate of each bug has now been “unified” across each month. Here’s how Ninji explains it:<\/p>\n

spawn rates have been unified for all insects<\/p>\n

agrias butterfly used to be less common in April than in its other available months. wharf roach had a higher rate in March.<\/p>\n

that\u2019s all gone now<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

peacock butterflies have been cut by 80-90%; emperors and atlas moths by 50%
regular stinkbugs are up 100%, man-faced ones down 50%<\/p>\n

tiger beetles up by 33%, scarab beetles down 40%<\/p>\n

scorpions and tarantulas have both been nerfed significantly as well<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

You can get a better idea of what the data miner is talking about in the detailed chart below. As you can see, spawn rates for quite a number of insects in certain months have been adjusted, and you’ll now see scorpions and tarantulas less than before.<\/p>\n

Polygon notes how another “well-known” Nintendo data miner has also confirmed<\/a> the nerfs to tarantula and scorpion spawn rates. So if you notice less or more of certain bugs, it’s likely to do with Animal Crossing’s most recent update.<\/p>\n
