{"id":111723,"date":"2020-04-17T14:54:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-17T14:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/361418"},"modified":"2020-04-17T14:54:00","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T14:54:00","slug":"sega-shuttering-two-mobile-games-after-parting-ways-with-developer-demiurge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2020\/04\/17\/sega-shuttering-two-mobile-games-after-parting-ways-with-developer-demiurge\/","title":{"rendered":"Sega shuttering two mobile games after parting ways with developer Demiurge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sega is shutting down its <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sega.com\/segaheroes\">Sega Heroes<\/a>&nbsp;<\/em>and<em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sega.com\/crazytaxitycoon\">Crazy Taxi Tycoon<\/a><\/em> mobile titles after its split from developer Demiurge Studios.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Demiurge was purchased by Sega back in 2015, but has now been bought back from the&nbsp;Japanese company&nbsp;by original co-founder Albert Reed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That&nbsp;parting of the ways means both <em>Sega Heroes<\/em> and <em>Crazy Taxi Tycoon<\/em> will be switched off on May 21, 2020, with in-app purchases being deactivated ahead of time&nbsp;on April 16.&nbsp;Players who made a real-money purchase on or after March 17 will be able to apply for a refund.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the split, Demiurge said it has had an &#8220;amazing&#8221; five years under Sega&#8217;s ownership, but is now looking to return to its roots.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 2015 we joined the SEGA family of studios. It has been an amazing ride with SEGA over the past five years, working with iconic IP to create a wonderful portfolio of free to play mobile games,&#8221;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/demiurgestudios.com\">reads a Demiurge statement<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Demiurge Studios will return to its roots. Albert Reed, one of our studio\u2019s founders, leads a team that has acquired the studio from SEGA Corporation.
