Ten student teams<\/a> from across nine<\/span> European, Middle Eastern, and African<\/span> countries<\/span> pitch<\/span>ed<\/span> their <\/span>tech <\/span>solutions at the 2020 Imagine Cup EMEA Regional Final<\/span> this week<\/span>. Each team brought a project<\/span> ignited<\/span> from their passion<\/span> and developed with <\/span>purpose, impact, and <\/span>Microsoft Azure<\/span>. The <\/span>event<\/span> concluded with the selection of the top two EMEA<\/span> teams<\/span> moving forward to this year\u2019s World Championship<\/span> at Microsoft Build – congratulations<\/span> Team The Knights from Kenya and RedWalls from Tunisia <\/span>for taking home the winning spots!<\/span> <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

The Imagine Cup aims to inspire students to use their imagination and passion for technology to create innovative <\/span>and inclusive projects<\/span> that tackle some of the world\u2019s biggest social, environmental, and health challenges. <\/span>Taking on this challenge, The Knights created an automated weeding bot to help farmers eliminate the need for herbicides in their crops, and Team RedWalls created a mobile application designed for Alzheimer\u2019s patients and their caregivers to help evaluate and train the user’s memory. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Out of hundreds of EMEA submissions, the ten<\/span> regional<\/span> finalist teams <\/span>virtually showcased their innovations<\/span> to a\u202f<\/a><\/span>panel<\/span> of<\/span> <\/a>judges<\/a>\u202f<\/span>to compete for prizes totaling USD20,000, Azure credits, and two spots in the 2020 World Championship.\u202fWith <\/span>ideas<\/span>\u202fencompassing solutions in\u202feducation, <\/span>wildlife conservation, cancer detection<\/span>, <\/span>emotional wellbeing<\/span>,<\/span> accessibility,<\/span> and more, judges had a\u202fdifficult\u202ftask\u202fselecting which teams to advance.<\/span>\u202f<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

World Finalist<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 Team The Knights<\/a>, Kenya<\/span>\u202f<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The Knights created an automated robot using artificial intelligence to identify and remove weeds from rows of crops. Their solution uses cameras as sensors to gather input from the environment and eliminate farmers’ need to use environmentally harmful pesticides in their weeding. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

World Finalist<\/strong>\u202f\u2013 Team RedWalls, Tunisia<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Team RedWalls created I-Remember, a two-part mobile application designed for the wellbeing of both Alzheimer<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> patients and their caregivers.<\/span> The patient interface includes task reminders, live facial recognition, labelled photos, emergency location and call assistance, as well as memory games to help evaluate and train the user’s memory. The caregiver interface provides the same, but with supervisor features.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Runner-up<\/strong> – Team Wild Eye, Kenya<\/span><\/p>\n

The team’s project, Wild Eye_KE, brings technology to the wild by monitoring and tracking animal activities. Wild Eye_KE will notify authorities if animals move away from the wildlife protected areas in an effort to reduce poaching and human interaction.<\/span><\/p>\n

Runner-up <\/strong>– Team Allez<\/a>, Ukraine<\/p>\n

Allez supports personal development through sports experience. The team created a <\/span>mobile app which<\/span> collect<\/span>s<\/span> athlete <\/span>analytics and improve<\/span>s<\/span> communication with <\/span>the<\/span> coach<\/span>. <\/span>The aim is to maximize the performance of an athlete and help coaches grow individuals mentally ready to fight obstacles.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Runner-up<\/strong> – Team Vhysio, United Kingdom<\/span><\/p>\n

Vhysio<\/span> is a web application utilizing tensorflow.js, a cutting-edge browser-based Machine Learning library, to enable accessible physiotherapy for the visually impaired. <\/span>Vhysio<\/span> provides real-time feedback by speaking through exercises and responding to the user’s posture.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
