Back in the early 2000s, one video game series absolutely shredding was Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater<\/strong>. These games became some of Activision’s best-selling releases and gave the skateboarding scene a much-needed boost. While the Birdman himself certainly hasn’t<\/em> fallen from grace over the years,unfortunately, you can’t say the same thing about his long-time video game series.<\/p>\n

The 2015 release Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5<\/strong> was the last mainline entry in the series under the Activision license and after this, the deal between the two parties expired. The game ended up bombing, but the Hawk decided to give it one more shot with a standalone mobile-only release, Tony Hawk’s Skate Jam<\/strong> in 2018. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t go down well with original fans but has managed to find an audience since then.<\/p>\n

If you’re still hopeful that Tony will one day return to his console roots, there might<\/em> be a chance. While no platforms or games have been officially confirmed just yet, it does seem like something related to the Tony Hawk franchise is currently in the making. Aussie “experimental” punk band The Death Set<\/em> shared a now-deleted message via Facebook<\/a> saying it had just licensed a total of five songs for a new Tony Hawk game coming out this year, and that fans would be hearing them soon.<\/p>\n

As noted in the retweet, as there’s been no announcement, this is most-likely a slip-up (or a major NDA breach), if it is true. It also raises questions about what platform it could be for. A return to consoles seems somewhat unlikely at this stage, but there’s always a chance.<\/p>\n

Wccftech<\/a> also notes how the prolific leaker Sabi<\/a> late last year mentioned how they were contacted by someone at Activision about new prototypes of Pro Skater 1 and 2, but wasn’t sure if they were being turned into actual games. Keep in mind, Activision still owns the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater license<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The first Tony Hawk game was released on the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color in 2000. Over the series’ life, there were even a few Nintendo exclusives such as Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam<\/a><\/strong>. The last game in the series that appeared on a Nintendo platform was Tony Hawk: Shred<\/strong> for the Wii, which came packed with a skateboarding peripheral.<\/p>\n
