Witcher 3<\/a><\/strong> studio CD Projekt is now Europe’s second-largest video game company, according to its latest market valuation.<\/p>\n

It was valued at $6.8 billion around a month ago, but that figure has leapt to $8 billion since then thanks in no small part to the amazing commercial performance of Witcher 3 on the Switch and Steam<\/a>, as well as awareness of the Witcher brand being raised to hitherto unseen levels by Netflix’s popular live-action series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The impending release of Cyberpunk 2077<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 which is expected to be one of 2020’s biggest games \u2013 could also have contributed to the sudden rise in the company’s value. All of this means that the Polish firm is second only to French giant Ubisoft in terms of financial worth \u2013 Ubisoft is currently valued at around $9.6 billion.<\/p>\n

What makes this growth all the more remarkable is that the company hasn’t published anywhere near as many titles as Ubisoft has. Founded in 1994, CD Projekt has published just seven games: The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, The Witcher Adventure Game, The Witcher Battle Arena, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game<\/strong> and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As you can see, CD Projekt’s business is currently based on its adaptions of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher series, and it remains to be seen if Cyberpunk 2077 \u2013 itself based on an existing property, namely the Cyberpunk 2020<\/strong> tabletop system created by Mike Pondsmith \u2013 has the same legs as the epic fantasy franchise.<\/p>\n

Still, despite saying that it would move away from Geralt in the past<\/a>, the company recently signed a fresh deal<\/a> with Sapkowski which suggests we’ll be seeing more Witcher games in the future.
