But what about Metroid Prime, Reggie?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We know the former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aim\u00e9 was a big fan of Super Mario<\/a><\/strong>, The Legend of Zelda<\/a><\/strong> and the Metroid<\/a><\/strong> series long before he took on the role, but he wasn’t exactly the ultimate<\/em> collector. Despite revealing<\/a> he had “over 80 games” for the Super Nintendo not long ago, it turns out he didn’t own a GameCube when he applied for a role at the company.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Present Value podcast<\/a>, Reggie said at the time he was interviewed (in 2003), he had an original Xbox and a PlayStation 2 in terms of modern systems, but did not actually own Nintendo’s latest hardware. Here’s exactly what was said (thanks to Nintendo Enthusiast for the transcript):<\/p>\n

I knew Nintendo; I knew its franchises. I owned not only a Super NES but a Nintendo 64. I\u2019d owned a PlayStation 2; I owned an Xbox \u2014 they were all in my house. Interestingly, at the time I was interviewing with Nintendo, I did not own a GameCube. So, as a consumer, I could see issues and opportunities. I could have a sense of where the needs were not only from a sales and marketing perspective, which was the role I was being hired into, but just from an overall perspective.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He makes a great point, really. By owning all of the other<\/em> modern platforms, Reggie was able to identify the “issues” and “opportunities” and that gave him a greater perspective, allowing him to improve the situation on the Nintendo front.<\/p>\n
