It is yummy, though.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>What&#8217;s the first thing you did when you opened up that launch copy of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild\">Breath of the Wild<\/a><\/strong> nearly three years ago? Before you popped it in your brand new Switch and lost 300 hours of your life to it, we mean. Could you resist giving it a little lick? <em>Just us?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Well, if you managed to ignore the fact that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2017\/03\/weirdness_nintendo_switch_game_cards_taste_absolutely_horrible_so_dont_try_to_eat_them\">each cartridge is coated in a bitter agent<\/a> to discourage children, dogs, cats, guinea pigs and other pets from eating your games, you&#8217;re stronger than us! Having <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/12\/nintendo_switch_to_officially_launch_in_china_next_week\">recently launched<\/a> in the Chinese mainland thanks to Nintendo&#8217;s partnership with Chinese giant Tencent, it has now been independently confirmed by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zhaochen0507\">@zhaochen0507<\/a> that Chinese cartridges taste just as bitter and awful as they do in the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"object object-tweet\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p><span lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Tencent Nintendo Switch cartridge &#8220;tastes no different&#8221; than the ones released worldwide, as tested by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/zhaochen0507?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@zhaochen0507<\/a> himself.<br \/>Seriously, he&#8217;s one of the most inspiring individuals I&#8217;ve seen in the past few years. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/m07r9BCqXZ\">pic.twitter.com\/m07r9BCqXZ<\/a><\/span>\u2014 Chinese Nintendo (@chinesenintendo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chinesenintendo\/status\/1217974011054813184?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 17, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Interestingly, it has been suggested that the reason it took so long for the physical games to appear in the region was due to the bitter coating itself being scrutinised by the powers that be:<\/p>\n<aside class=\"object object-tweet\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p><span lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I talked to someone working on Tencent Nintendo Switch: The reason behind the delay of physical releases was that the bitter agent on Switch cartridges, Denatonium Benzoate, was still undergoing review.<\/span>\u2014 Snorlax\u2014Sun (@Sundejun) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sundejun\/status\/1205694601236860928?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 14, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p>The launch of Nintendo&#8217;s console in the territory has generated interest thanks to a &#8216;bespoke&#8217; roll-out that has means the choice for Tencent Switch owners is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/12\/random_upset_by_eshop_discoverability_issues_spare_a_thought_for_chinese_switch_owners\">rather slim at the moment<\/a>. Going against the precedent in all other markets, games in this territory are also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2020\/01\/youll_want_to_avoid_importing_physical_switch_games_from_china\">region locked<\/a> to the Tencent Switch, so importing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/08\/video_heres_your_first_look_at_rabbids_adventure_party_on_nintendo_switch\"><strong>Rabbids Adventure Party<\/strong> isn&#8217;t an option<\/a> at present.<\/p>\n<p>Still, with all these irritating differences it&#8217;s pleasant to hear that regardless of where you live in the world, an official Switch cartridge will taste terrible. As opposed to those delicious 3DS cartridges we used to munch down like After Eights.<\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;ve raised a few eyebrows by encouraging friends and family <em>&#8211; perhaps a little too strongly &#8211;<\/em> to give their games a shifty lick.
