The handheld hybrid has gone from strength to strength, gaining a non-hybrid member of the Switch family along the way, as well as more games than anybody could reasonably have time to play.<\/p>\n<p>2019 had plenty of surprises, too, from a host of games you&#8217;d never expect to see on Switch for one reason or another to typically off-the-wall announcements from everyone&#8217;s favourite Japanese video game company. A Switch that doesn&#8217;t switch? VR with your console and a bunch of cardboard? A Pilates ring and a body-building dragon? Anyone?!<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s have a look back on an eventful 12 months in the world of Nintendo&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>January &#8211; We Begin With An Apology&#8230;<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Please Understand\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/269bb81849678\/please-understand.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/269bb81849678\/please-understand.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Please Understand\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Our reviews and New Year resolutions were in stunning synchronisation when we kicked things off with our first review of 2019: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/fitness_boxing\">Fitness Boxing<\/a><\/strong>. Nintendo&#8217;s other big release that month was a Switch port of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/new_super_mario_bros_u_deluxe\"><strong>New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe<\/strong><\/a>. January also saw <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/metroid_prime_4_development_scrapped_will_be_restarted_alongside_retro_studios\">the announcement of and apology for<\/a> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/metroid_prime_4\">Metroid Prime 4<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s delay, which was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/video_why_you_should_be_pleased_the_development_of_metroid_prime_4_has_been_restarted\">probably for the best<\/a> all things considered.<\/p>\n<p>In other Nintendo news, the company participated &#8216;as an observer&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/nintendo_participating_in_virtual_reality_vrm_consortium_as_an_observer\">in a VR consortium event<\/a>, which hinted at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/nintendo_labo_toy-con_04_vr_kit\">quirky Labo release<\/a> we&#8217;d see later in the year. 3DS sales and software <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/disappointing_3ds_software_sales_show_the_consoles_slow_death_in_japan\">slowed to a crawl<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/game-breaking_bug_found_in_mario_and_luigi_bowsers_inside_story_on_3ds\">a game-breaking bug in<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/3ds\/mario_and_luigi_bowsers_inside_story_plus_bowser_jr_s_journey\"><strong>Mario and Luigi: Bowser&#8217;s Inside Story<\/strong><\/a> probably wasn&#8217;t the best way to send off the venerable, ageing handheld. And speaking of things dying, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/reminder_the_wii_shop_channel_closes_this_month_heres_what_that_means_for_you\">the Wii Shop Channel was closed<\/a> (giving everyone the excuse to whistle its infectious theme music for a day or two) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/looking_for_a_brand_new_wii_u_thatll_be_usd800_please\">the price of brand new Wii Us skyrocketed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The rumour mill kicked into gear early with whispers that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/rumour_super_luckys_tale_could_be_making_the_switch\">Xbox-exclusive <strong>Super Lucky&#8217;s Tale<\/strong> might be coming to Switch<\/a>. It sounded far-fetched at the time, but little did we know it was merely foreshadowing some rather unusual industry cross-pollination later in the year. With <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/random_microsoft_really_digs_super_smash_bros_ultimate\">Microsoft tweeting about how much it dug<\/a> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/super_smash_bros_ultimate\">Super Smash Bros.<\/a><\/strong>, it all seems so obvious looking back.<\/p>\n<p>Smash was still a relatively recent Switch release and fans were having fun <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/random_people_are_making_meme-worthy_smash_ultimate_tier_lists_and_theyre_utterly_wonderful\">making meme-friendly tier lists<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/god_of_wars_art_director_is_still_drawing_realistic_smash_bros_characters_and_theyre_amazing\">rendering fighters in a realistic fashion<\/a>. Cross-platform play was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/full_cross-platform_play_now_live_in_rocket_league\">on the tip of everyone&#8217;s tongues<\/a>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/splatoon_2\">Splatoon 2<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s Splatfest events were in their prime making us <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/friends_beat_family_in_the_splatoon_2_frosty_fest\">choose between friends, family<\/a> and other fun binary subjects, and people were still finding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/random_totakas_song_has_been_discovered_in_pikmin_2_again\">hidden Easter Eggs in old Nintendo classics<\/a>. A few other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/random_87-year-old_grandma_clocks_in_a_whopping_3580_hours_on_animal_crossing_new_leaf\">heart-warming<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/random_this_couple_have_been_playing_mario_kart_64_every_day_since_2001_to_decide_who_makes_the_tea\">January tales<\/a> rounded out the month and we were well on our way with 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Most Popular Article:<\/strong><\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/01\/god_of_wars_art_director_is_still_drawing_realistic_smash_bros_characters_and_theyre_amazing\">God Of War&#8217;s Art Director Is Still Drawing Realistic Smash Bros. Characters, And They&#8217;re Amazing<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Most Popular Review:<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/tales_of_vesperia_definitive_edition\">Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>February &#8211; Unleash the Directs<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"SuperMarioMaker2\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/e94f79b862374\/supermariomaker2.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/e94f79b862374\/supermariomaker2.900x.jpg\" alt=\"SuperMarioMaker2\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>As January went on, rumours of an imminent Nintendo Direct announcement simmered, but it wasn&#8217;t until 13th February that Nintendo went and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/feature_the_big_nintendo_direct_summary_-_13th_february\">dropped an absolute whopper<\/a> which confirmed multiple brand new Switch releases. Alongside a long list of announcements, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/tetris_99\">Tetris 99<\/a><\/strong> launched that very day and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/super_mario_maker_2\">Super Mario Maker 2<\/a><\/strong> was revealed, as was the brilliant <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_links_awakening\">Legend of Zelda: Link&#8217;s Awakening<\/a><\/strong> remake. Not only this, but before the month was over <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/pokemon_sword_and_shield\">Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Shield<\/a><\/strong> was also unveiled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/pokemon_sword_and_shield_revealed_for_nintendo_switch_new_starters_shown\">in a separate Direct presentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere Nintendo <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/dr_mario_world_announced_for_mobile_devices_targeting_an_early_summer_2019_global_release\">announced its next mobile experiment<\/a> in the form of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/mobile\/dr_mario_world\">Dr. Mario World<\/a><\/strong>, as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/nintendo_tokyo_store_opening_this_fall\">plans to open a Nintendo Tokyo Store<\/a>. With Super Nintendo World <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/super_nintendo_world_will_be_ready_in_time_for_the_2020_tokyo_olympics\">on schedule to open for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics<\/a> (and Miyamoto promising <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/miyamoto_nintendos_universal_resort_theme_parks_will_be_really_worth_the_wait\">it would be worth the wait<\/a>), Japanese gamers would soon have no shortage of ways to hand over wads of cash to Nintendo. Nintendo Switch Online had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/more_than_8_million_accounts_are_subscribed_to_nintendo_switch_online\">over 8 million accounts subscribed<\/a>, although Nintendo was looking for ways to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/nintendo_planning_ways_to_boost_the_appeal_of_switch_online_service_on_a_yearly_basis\">boost the appeal of the service<\/a>, and the number of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/more_than_1800_games_have_now_been_released_on_the_nintendo_switch\">games available for Switch reached and impressive 1800<\/a> &#8211; not half bad in less than two years.<\/p>\n<p>In a move that would echo a similar apology with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/ring_fit_adventure\">Ring Fit Adventure<\/a><\/strong> later in the year, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/imagineer_issues_apology_for_fitness_boxing_shortage_in_japan\">developer Imagineer apologised<\/a> after stores in Japan ran out of physical copies of Fitness Boxing. The rumour mill started smoking with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/talking_point_what_do_you_want_from_a_switch_mini\">&#8216;Switch Mini&#8217; conversations popping up all over the place<\/a>, despite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/nintendo_has_nothing_to_announce_on_the_rumours_of_a_switch_mini\">Nintendo playing coy<\/a>. It was also rumoured that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/rumour_microsoft_plans_to_bring_xbox_app_and_game_pass_to_nintendo_switch\">Microsoft was planning to release games on Switch<\/a>, a move which made more sense <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/talking_point_nintendo_and_microsoft_working_together_isnt_as_crazy_as_you_think\">the more we thought about it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a big month for Nintendo, but arguably the biggest industry news was the announcement that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/reggie_fils-aime_is_retiring_after_15_notable_years_at_nintendo_of_america\">Reggie Fils-Aim\u00e9&#8217;s body was ready to leave Nintendo of America<\/a> and that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/feature_meet_doug_bowser_the_man_behind_the_meme\">Doug Bowser<\/a> would be taking over as President from 15th April 2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Most Popular Article:<\/strong><\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/02\/god_of_wars_art_director_is_still_posting_incredible_realistic_smash_ultimate_designs\">God Of War&#8217;s Art Director Is Still Posting Incredible Realistic Smash Ultimate Designs<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Most Popular Review: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/final_fantasy_ix\">Final Fantasy IX<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>March &#8211; Dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Cuphead\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/1130930660223\/cuphead.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/1130930660223\/cuphead.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Cuphead\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>At the start of March &#8211; refusing to let the 3DS go quietly into that good night &#8211; Nintendo released the excellent <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/3ds\/kirbys_extra_epic_yarn\">Kirby&#8217;s Extra Epic Yarn<\/a><\/strong> and left Switch-owning fans of the game wearing a frown. The month was bookended with a similarly joyful Switch release, though, in the form of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/yoshis_crafted_world\">Yoshi&#8217;s Crafted World<\/a><\/strong>. A host of games were announced, including a bunch in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/watch_nindies_direct_march_2019_broadcast_-_live\">a Nindies Direct broadcast<\/a> that &#8211; unbelievably &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/cuphead_is_coming_to_nintendo_switch_along_with_xbox_achievements\">revealed <strong>Cuphead<\/strong> for Switch<\/a> as well as <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/zelda\">Zelda<\/a><\/strong>\/<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/crypt_of_the_necrodancer\">Crypt of the NecroDancer<\/a><\/strong> crossover <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/cadence_of_hyrule_is_what_you_get_when_you_cross_crypt_of_the_necrodancer_with_zelda\"><strong>Cadence of Hyrule<\/strong><\/a>. Famed N64-era dinosaur hunter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/n64_classics_turok_and_turok_2_are_headed_to_nintendo_switch\"><strong>Turok<\/strong> returned to Switch<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n<p>In other Nintendo news, the company revealed some interesting figures on its recruitment page regarding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/nintendo_reveals_average_salary_age_and_more_of_its_employees_in_japan\">average salary and other juicy work stats<\/a>, Masahiro Sakurai spoke about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/sakurai_battled_through_health_issues_with_an_iv_drip_during_smash_ultimate_development\">the lengths he went to<\/a> to bring Smash Bros. Ultimate to the masses, developers told us <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/feature_what_developers_really_think_of_the_nintendo_switch_eshop\">what they really thought about the Switch eShop<\/a>, and some lucky beggar found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/random_extremely_rare_nintendo_world_championships_cartridge_found_in_an_attic\">an ultra rare Nintendo World Championships 1990 NES cart<\/a> in their loft.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/google_reveals_stadia_its_vision_of_a_cloud_gaming_future\">Google revealed its console-less Stadia platform<\/a>, Sony decided to do <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/random_is_state_of_play_playstations_take_on_nintendo_direct\">its own Nintendo Directs<\/a>, we glimpsed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/designer_shares_switch_and_joy-con_mock-ups_based_on_every_nintendo_home_console\">some lovely mock-ups<\/a> of Switches and Joy-Con sporting the liveries of past Nintendo consoles, and another mock-up of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/random_heres_what_the_game_boy_might_look_like_if_it_was_designed_today\">a modern take on the Game Boy<\/a> predicted the look of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/10\/who_needs_a_game_boy_classic_edition_when_youve_got_the_analogue_pocket\">the Analogue Pocket<\/a> over six months before its reveal. <em>Freaky!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>Most Popular Article:<\/strong><\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/03\/cuphead_physical_release_confirmed_for_nintendo_switch\">Cuphead Physical Release Confirmed For Nintendo Switch<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Most Popular Review: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/turok\">Turok<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>April &#8211; Sonic, ports and virtual insanity<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"MarioVR\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/b493e008812cd\/mariovr.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/b493e008812cd\/mariovr.900x.jpg\" alt=\"MarioVR\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>As is customary, April began <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/the_best_video_game_april_fools_day_gags_of_2019\">with pranks and gags<\/a> but the game releases soon started rolling in with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/reviews\/nintendo-switch\/nintendo_labo_toy-con_04_vr_kit\">Labo VR Kit<\/a><\/strong> (which released as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/nintendo_labo_wins_two_2019_bafta_games_awards\">the old kits won a couple of BAFTA awards<\/a>) and updates to both <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild\">Zelda: Breath of the Wild<\/a><\/strong> (which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/hands_on_legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild_vr_made_us_want_to_puke\">made us feel quite unwell<\/a>) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/hands_on_super_mario_odyssey_vr_-_a_non-essential_but_pleasant_return_trip\"><strong>Super Mario Odyssey<\/strong><\/a>. A slew of ports &#8211; several of them incredibly good &#8211; arrived on Switch, too, including <strong><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/mortal_kombat_11\">Mortal Kombat 11<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/cuphead\"><strong>Cuphead<\/strong><\/a> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/hellblade_senuas_sacrifice\">Hellblade<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In other Switch news, the console got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/latest_switch_firmware_update_adds_this_amazing_hidden_feature\">a silent &#8216;boost&#8217; power mode<\/a> that improved loading speeds in certain games, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/rumour_nintendo_has_reportedly_axed_its_quality_of_life_department\">Nintendo axed its Quality of Life department<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/nintendo_removes_seventh_generation_games_from_its_official_website\">removed 7th-gen consoles<\/a> from its information pages, the company was ranked as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/nintendo_is_the_ninth_most_reputable_major_company_in_the_us_according_to_study\">the 9th most reputable<\/a> in the US according to a report, and those <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/rumour_cheaper_version_of_the_switch_expected_to_launch_by_the_end_of_june\">&#8216;Switch Mini&#8217; rumours<\/a> just wouldn&#8217;t stop.<\/p>\n<p>Overshadowing all that mere noise, though, was the fact that it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/reminder_reggie_fils-aime_retires_as_nintendo_of_america_president_today\">Game Over for Reggie Fils-Aim\u00e9 at Nintendo of America<\/a> as he retired and Doug Bowser took over as NOA president. In other video game movie news, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/05\/the_detective_pikachu_movie_reviews_are_in_and_its_actually_pretty_mixed\">Detective Pikachu was generally much better received<\/a> than the blue hedgehog.<\/p>\n<p>Back to Nintendo news, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/05\/watch_super_mario_maker_2_direct_broadcast_-_live\">Super Mario Maker 2 Nintendo Direct<\/a> gave us a better look at what to expect from the sequel, although there was a little confusion around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/05\/it_seems_you_cant_play_against_friends_online_in_super_mario_maker_2\">some expected features<\/a> which <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/05\/all_those_amiibo_on_your_shelf_you_cant_use_them_in_super_mario_maker_2\">Nintendo didn&#8217;t include<\/a> (at least not at launch).<\/p>\n<p>The month of May saw plenty of games released on Switch, too, with Konami&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/castlevania_anniversary_collection\"><strong>Castlevania Anniversary Collection<\/strong><\/a>, Capcom&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/resident_evil\">Resident Evil<\/a><\/strong> rereleases, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/baba_is_you\">Baba Is You<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/gato_roboto\">Gato Roboto<\/a><\/strong> being particular standouts. There were too many announcements <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/guide_all_the_games_featured_in_the_e3_2019_nintendo_direct\">to summarise<\/a> here, but the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/animal_crossing_new_horizons_finally_shown_off_for_nintendo_switch_delayed_to_2020\"><strong>Animal Crossing: New Horizons<\/strong> delay<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/banjo-kazooie_confirmed_for_super_smash_bros_ultimate_this_fall\"><strong>Banjo-Kazooie<\/strong> in Smash<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/a_full_sequel_to_the_legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild_is_now_in_development\">the official reveal of a sequel to<\/a> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/a_full_sequel_to_the_legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild_is_now_in_development\">The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild<\/a><\/strong> were probably the biggest stories.<\/p>\n<p>At the show we got our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/hands_on_zelda_links_awakening_on_switch_treads_a_fine_line_between_remake_and_reimagining\">hands on the Switch remake of <strong>Link&#8217;s Awakening<\/strong><\/a> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/hands_on_creature_in_the_well_is_the_most_beautiful_game_we_played_at_e3\">Creature In The Well<\/a><\/strong>, sat down for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/feature_tetris_creator_alexey_pajitnov_on_tetris_99_tetris_comics_and_his_favourite_tetris_piece\">a chat with Tetris Lord Alexey Pajitnov<\/a> and generally enjoyed the post-announcement glow of an excellent E3 for Nintendo. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/cd_projekt_red_not_really_cutting_anything_from_the_witcher_3_on_nintendo_switch\">Witcher 3 on Switch?<\/a> Well I never! Not everyone was happy, though, with many Pok\u00e9mon fans very disappointed to hear that Pok\u00e9mon Sword and Shield <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/soapbox_why_sword_and_shields_pokemon_purge_will_benefit_everyone\">would not feature the entire national Pok\u00e9dex<\/a>. And as support for <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/arms\">ARMS<\/a><\/strong> quietly ceased, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/feature_its_time_to_lay_down_your_arms\">we looked back on that underappreciated little gem<\/a> in the Switch catalogue.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of new releases, Metroidvania <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/timespinner\">Timespinner<\/a><\/strong> impressed us, as did <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/collection_of_mana\">Collection of Mana<\/a><\/strong> and the freshly released Zelda crossover title <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/06\/hands_on_zelda_links_awakening_on_switch_treads_a_fine_line_between_remake_and_reimagining\">Cadence of Hyrule<\/a><\/strong>.
