Finding the time to play them all has been by far the biggest problem facing Switch or Switch Lite owners this year!<\/p>\n<p>Nintendo&#8217;s console got off to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/10\/feature_best_nintendo_switch_games_of_2017\">a rocketing start in 2017<\/a> with the heavy hitters of launch game <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild\">The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/super_mario_odyssey\">Super Mario Odyssey<\/a><\/strong>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/10\/feature_best_nintendo_switch_games_of_2018\">that continued into 2018<\/a> with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/super_smash_bros_ultimate\">Super Smash Bros. Sure, the Nintendo Switch versions don\u2019t bring anything particularly new to the table (even the touchscreen aspects were present on PS Vita), but if you\u2019re looking to experience these games for the first time (or again) on a portable platform, this is the place to do it. While still the inferior entry in the Darksiders trilogy, this first outing is still a robust action-platformer full of satisfying melee combos, open-ended levels and a suitably over-the-top story. The worst thing you could say about it is that the overworld exploration may prove to be too involved for those who are in it purely for the runny-jumpy stuff, but those who are happy to mix platforming with top-down adventuring and don\u2019t mind adapting to the constantly changing pace will find the best of both worlds here. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/yooka-laylee_and_the_impossible_lair\"><strong>Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair<\/strong><\/a> is a fantastic sophomore effort that pays tribute to Rare&#8217;s past and establishes Playtonic as one of the UK&#8217;s most exciting studios.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<div class=\"list-hero\" data-subject=\"games\/nintendo-switch\/new_super_mario_bros_u_deluxe\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/7ced8829b06bd\/new-super-mario-bros-u-deluxe-artwork.900x250.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"250\" alt=\"New Super Mario Bros. The chance to replay a top-drawer Mario game on a handheld is tantalising, although gameplay aside, ageing visuals and the irritation of being kicked back to the world map after <em>every<\/em> death stand out as things that could have been improved. Here are two excellent swashbuckling epics ported to Nintendo&#8217;s console in fine fashion. <strong>Black Flag<\/strong> is a revelation in portable mode and looks and performs almost flawlessly as you blast your way around the Caribbean on Edward Kenway&#8217;s captivating pirate adventures. <strong>Rogue<\/strong>, although it struggles to keep up slightly here and there, is always eminently playable and together with the excellent Freedom Cry, they give Assassin&#8217;s Creed fans something they&#8217;ve wanted for a very long time now \u2013 this is handheld Assassin&#8217;s Creed at a standard we weren&#8217;t sure we&#8217;d ever see on Switch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<div class=\"list-hero\" data-subject=\"games\/nintendo-switch\/steinsgate_elite\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/24963ede0deff\/steinsgate-elite-artwork.900x250.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"250\" alt=\"Steins;Gate Elite (Switch)\"><a class=\"cover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/steinsgate_elite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/608da1181c428\/steinsgate-elite-cover.cover_small.jpg\" alt=\"Steins;Gate Elite (Switch)\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"list-hero-info\">\n<p><span>Publisher: <\/span><strong>Spike Chunsoft<\/strong> \/ <span>Developer: <\/span><strong>MAGES. Its slick presentation extends to all aspects of production (font lovers and <strong>Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/strong> fans will immediately recognise the Swiss 911 Ultra Compressed type used on the main menus) and it improves on the original release while retaining the same compelling narrative.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"list-item\">\n<div class=\"list-hero\" data-subject=\"games\/switch-eshop\/final_fantasy_viii_remastered\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/f5fd27c6c7e3a\/final-fantasy-viii-remastered-artwork.900x250.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"250\" alt=\"Final Fantasy VIII Remastered (Switch eShop)\"><a class=\"cover\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/final_fantasy_viii_remastered\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/8e625053afaa0\/final-fantasy-viii-remastered-cover.cover_small.jpg\" alt=\"Final Fantasy VIII Remastered (Switch eShop)\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"list-hero-info\">\n<p><span>Publisher: <\/span><strong>Square Enix<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"release\"><span>Release Date: <\/span><strong>3rd Sep 2019 (<abbr title=\"United States \/ North America\">USA<\/abbr>)<\/strong> \/ <strong>3rd Sep 2019 (<abbr title=\"UK \/ European\">UK\/EU<\/abbr>)<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Nearly twenty years later, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/final_fantasy_viii_remastered\">Final Fantasy VIII<\/a><\/strong> proves to be just as weird and polarising a release as it was when it first came out. Cool new ideas like Guardian Forces and Triple Triad are hamstrung by an absolutely <em>wack<\/em> story and the tedium of the Draw system, making for an experience that\u2019s great in some regards and not so great in others. Taken as a whole, however, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered proves to be a fun and enjoyable romp through the weirder side of the Final Fantasy series, notably bolstered by the new HD presentation and the inclusion of helpful quality of life features. At worst, Deltarune Chapter 1 is just a smaller and shallower version of Undertale; at best, it\u2019s a promising glimpse into a much more ambitious project that will hopefully grow to escape the shadow of its forerunner.
