{"id":104403,"date":"2019-11-25T20:59:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T20:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/354747"},"modified":"2019-11-25T20:59:00","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T20:59:00","slug":"battleborn-pulled-from-digital-stores-going-offline-in-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/11\/25\/battleborn-pulled-from-digital-stores-going-offline-in-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Battleborn pulled from digital stores, going offline in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Battleborn<\/em> publisher 2K Games has announced that Gearbox\u2019s ill-fated hero-shooter will be going offline for good in January 2021, and has already been pulled from digital shelves ahead of the shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>2K says that it is now <a href=\"https:\/\/support.2k.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360038371534\">in the process of gradually sunsetting the game<\/a> to direct resources to other projects.<\/p>\n<p>As part of that process, <em>Battleborn<\/em> players will no longer be able to purchase the game\u2019s premium currency after February 24, 2020, though any purchased prior or earned in-game can be spent as usual until the game goes offline.<\/p>\n<p>After that, the next step sees servers shut down in January 2021, and&nbsp;<em>Battleborn<\/em> as a whole will be rendered entirely unplayable.<\/p>\n<p>Gearbox launched <em>Battleborn<\/em> back in 2016, a launch window that saw it going head to head with similarly angled hero-shooters like Blizzard\u2019s <em>Overwatch<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The team had already&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/305904\/Moving_on_Gearbox_wraps_up_active_development_on_Battleborn.php\">ended active development<\/a>&nbsp;as of September 2017.
