Yes, we’re talking about Overwatch Legendary Edition. So, how does it compare in the technical department to existing versions? Digital Foundry has now taken a look.

This conversion was handled by Iron Galaxy – the same team responsible for porting Blizzard’s Diablo III: Eternal Collection to Nintendo’s hybrid system. Compared to this hellish experience, Overwatch is a far more complex game to bring across to a mobile chipset and while it works, and is considered to be a technical feat, the limits of the Switch are a lot more obvious this time around.

Sadly, it does detract from the overall experience – with the frame rate being reduced from 60 down to a mostly stable 30fps, frame pacing issues, watered-down textures and extra environmental details completely removed. Visually, it’s “best described” as the PC version running in low settings.

Fortunately, in handheld mode, you won’t notice these cutbacks too much – especially on a system like the Switch Lite. In this mode, the game targets a dynamic 1280 x 720 resolution and in docked mode it aims for a dynamic 1600 x 900 resolution. Over time, the low-quality textures become even less apparent due to the speed of the game.

Check out the video above for the full rundown and if you want a second opinion, read our Nintendo Life review, where we awarded this multiplayer hero game seven out of ten stars. How has your experience been with Overwatch on the Switch so far?
