If only we could find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tdenUER3VOw\">a Zoltar machine<\/a> and have the best of both worlds\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Cinephiles have it easy; a 90-minute movie is a walk in the park next to a JRPG with a triple-figure hour count. How many times could you watch the entire MCU catalogue in the time it would take you to play through <em>every<\/em> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/tags\/final-fantasy\">Final Fantasy<\/a><\/strong>? Compulsive tendencies can compound the issue and lead to playing things simply to tick them off the list, too. As a games writer, you do your best to have as wide a knowledge of the medium as possible. It\u2019s impossible to play <em>everything<\/em>, though, and blind spots are inevitable.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, it\u2019s time to exorcise the demons in public with you lovely people as our living witnesses. Yes, you can comfort us, encourage us and reassure us that, no, <em>not<\/em> having played the 1983 Commodore VIC-20 port of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/arcade\/donkey_kong\">Donkey Kong<\/a><\/strong> on original hardware doesn\u2019t make us incomplete or bad people. Ah, if only they were that obscure!<\/p>\n<p>Below you\u2019ll find the confessions of Team Nintendo Life and the games that \u2013 for one reason or another \u2013 have slipped through our personal nets. Be kind!<\/p>\n<h2>Gavin Lane, staff writer<\/h2>\n<p><em>Gavin inexplicably managed to avoid the biggest game in the world (no, not that one)&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"MC\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/8dcb5162aeb3c\/mc.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/8dcb5162aeb3c\/mc.900x.jpg\" alt=\"MC\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>There are several I could pick, but I&#8217;m going with <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/minecraft\">Minecraft<\/a><\/strong>. Yes, despite owning a half dozen platforms that run the game in some form, I have never once touched the massively influential phenomenon that, as of last month, still has a hugely impressive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2019\/09\/15\/minecraft-112-million-monthly-players\/\">112 million active monthly users<\/a>. I know about that Steve chap and his pixel sword, and some sort of gribblies that come to get you at night. I&#8217;ve also read about obsessive builders constructing working computers, <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gaming\/2010\/09\/the-true-story-behind-the-amazing-minecraft-enterprise-d\/\">full scale renditions of the starship Enterprise<\/a> and other such <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2019\/04\/random_hyrule_castle_from_the_legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild_restored_in_minecraft\">voxel-based wonders<\/a>, but it was never enough to hook me.<\/p>\n<p>As someone who <em>adores<\/em> LEGO, it&#8217;s tough to say how I&#8217;ve avoided Mojang&#8217;s creative sandbox, and there&#8217;s a growing sense that it&#8217;s simply too late now. Considering the mountain of games still unplayed on my Switch, I don&#8217;t have the time to noodle about building things like I did for hundreds of hours in <strong>Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts<\/strong>. Ah, now that was a game! Well, actually, the &#8216;game&#8217; part was lacking, but the editor and engine was brilliant. I&#8217;m sure Minecraft is brilliant, too, but I think that ship has sailed.<\/p>\n<h2>Liam Doolan, news reporter<\/h2>\n<p><em>Liam missed one of the best Zeldas of recent years thanks to some plumber or other&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"LBW\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/fd497c07f67bd\/lbw.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/fd497c07f67bd\/lbw.900x.jpg\" alt=\"LBW\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>I\u2019ve played just about every Zelda game I\u2019ve been able to get my hands on over the years, but one entry in particular that I never got around to playing was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/3ds\/legend_of_zelda_a_link_between_worlds\"><strong>A Link Between Worlds<\/strong><\/a> on the 3DS. From memory, I received it as a Christmas present in 2013 not long after its release. The main problem was I also received <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/wiiu\/super_mario_3d_world\">Super Mario 3D World<\/a><\/strong> on the same day and ended up playing that instead \u2013 from start to finish \u2013 for the remainder of the holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>By the time I returned to the latest Zelda game on the 3DS, I\u2019d lost all enthusiasm for it and ran back to Mario. To this day a mint condition copy of A Link Between Worlds sits on my shelf waiting to be played. It\u2019s a real shame considering how I&#8217;ve thoroughly enjoyed more recent top-down Zelda outings such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/cadence_of_hyrule_crypt_of_the_necrodancer_featuring_the_legend_of_zelda\"><strong>Cadence of Hyrule<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/legend_of_zelda_links_awakening\"><strong>Link&#8217;s Awakening<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Feel free to crucify me in the comments below, or at the very least try to encourage me to take some time out for this &#8220;outstanding&#8221; 3DS classic.<\/p>\n<h2>Austin Voigt, contributing writer<\/h2>\n<p><em>Austin swears that she&#8217;s played a game that isn&#8217;t Animal Crossing, honest&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"SMS\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/dad9af45ce927\/sms.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/dad9af45ce927\/sms.900x.jpg\" alt=\"SMS\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>I try to live with a philosophy of honesty and transparency. Therefore, I must sadly admit I have yet to play the following games: Minecraft, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/switch-eshop\/fortnite\"><strong>Fortnite<\/strong><\/a>, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/overwatch_legendary_edition\">Overwatch<\/a><\/strong>, or any of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/elder_scrolls_v_skyrim\"><strong>The Elder Scrolls<\/strong><\/a> games. Also, I think I never had a chance to play <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/gamecube\/super_mario_sunshine\">Super Mario Sunshine<\/a><\/strong> (I just remember watching a friend play their copy). Slider seems like a pretty cool guy, and I can get behind the idea of a greedy real estate raccoon, but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s the sort of game that would hold my attention. Also, from what I gather, playing Animal Crossing is basically a life investment and I just wouldn\u2019t ever find the time to keep on top of everything how I\u2019d want to. If I\u2019d have discovered Animal Crossing as a child with plenty of free time things might be different, but I think busy adult life is the sad &#8211; but very present &#8211; issue here.<\/p>\n<p>If anyone reading this thinks they can convince me to give <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/nintendo-switch\/animal_crossing_new_horizons\">Animal Crossing: New Horizons<\/a><\/strong> a shot next March, by all means try your luck. I\u2019d love to be truly won over.<\/p>\n<h2>Gon\u00e7alo Lopes, contributing writer<\/h2>\n<p><em>Gon\u00e7alo used to be the very best, like no one ever was. I can already feel the fingers pointing up at me, questioning my true status as a &#8216;Legendary Nintendo Gamer God of Awesome&#8217;, the jaws falling to the ground, the cries of children screaming how I have failed them, women saying \u201cWe need to talk\u201d (no really, this was once an issue in my past love life!) and every other possible nightmare ever. Here goes: I never played any <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/pokemon\">Pok\u00e9mon<\/a><\/strong> video game before Wii U\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/wiiu\/pokken_tournament\">Pokk\u00e9n Tournament<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So how is it possible that a guy who owns every Nintendo system from the Game Boy onwards (except you, Virtual Boy &#8211; you know what you did!) can have possibly missed out on the whole Pok\u00e9fever? Well, I am amazed at that myself, so I have vowed to change that on Switch. When the whole Pocket Monster craze hit the West in full force, I was watching mecha anime and playing Super Famicom imports, soon leaping onto the PS1 \u201carcade-at-home\u201d revolution and never looking back. Every time a new Pok\u00e9mon has released ever since I always feel truly alone: I don\u2019t get the references, the jokes, the anime episode quotes or even the song lyrics. Nothing! Why, oh why didn\u2019t I get a collectible <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/games\/snes\/f-zero\">F-Zero<\/a><\/strong> game instead&#8230;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>While Switch enables us to \u2018catch up\u2019 on things we\u2019ve missed, the tidal wave of software and excellent sales mean we\u2019ve arrived at a point where our backlog of unfinished games is now joined by a backlog of \u2018un-started\u2019 games. What are the hugely popular and classic games or series that you&#8217;ve somehow managed to avoid?
