You should head to the library in Mabe Village first instead \u2013 if you visited there at the beginning of the game, you may remember a book in the lower right corner that you couldn\u2019t yet read.<\/p>\n<p>The key to reading this book is the Magnifying Lens item. If you do not yet have this item, please read the trading sequence recap below and return when you are done. Otherwise, skip ahead to the directions.<\/p>\n<h4>The Link\u2019s Awakening Trading Sequence Recap: A Link to the Parts<\/h4>\n<p>If you do not yet have the Magnifying Lens, check out what we had to say about the trading sequence in our previous guides (at this point in the game, you will have made it to at least Part Three as you have to follow the first two parts to access Kanalet Castle).<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"finding-directions-through-the-wind-fishrs-egg-dungeon\">Finding Directions Through the Wind Fish\u2019s Egg Dungeon<\/h3>\n<p>Read the \u201cDark Secrets and Mysteries of Koholint\u201d and you will see the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Round and round, the passageways of the egg\u2026<br \/>[A sequence of eight directional arrows]<br \/>Hmmmmmm, this book reeks of secrets\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Unfortunately, there\u2019s no point us giving you the sequence we received while writing this guide \u2013 the directions each player must head are randomly generated when the game is started, so you will have to read the book for yourself!<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"bonus-how-to-find-the-color-dungeon-using-lrthe-hidden-power-of-colorr\">Bonus: How to Find the Color Dungeon Using \u2018\u2019The Hidden Power of Color\u201d<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Link runs head-first into a shelf of books\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/cff676be384bc\/link-runs-head-first-into-a-shelf-of-books.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/cff676be384bc\/link-runs-head-first-into-a-shelf-of-books.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Link runs head-first into a shelf of books\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Back in 1998, after nine years of monochrome handheld gaming, Nintendo updated the Game Boy line to include a shocking new development: color (or \u2018colour\u2019 for commonwealth readers and fans of the superfluous \u2018u\u2019). They commemorated this startling invention with the original Zelda remake, Link\u2019s Awakening DX, colourising the original release and adding a ninth dungeon \u2013 the color dungeon.<\/p>\n<p>21 years later, and gaming handhelds look <em>a little<\/em> different. Are you worthy to receive the power of color?\u201d<br \/>What\u2019s this \u201cworld of color\u201d about? Maybe you should try it and see!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Head to the Graveyard and look for the only group of five tombstones (they\u2019re in the south east corner). Push them in the order indicated (i.e. clockwise, starting in the lower right) and in the directions indicated by the arrows.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll let you tackle this one on your own \u2013 get to the end and you can choose between a red tunic (doubles attack power) or a blue tunic (doubles defence power).<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"wind-fishrs-egg-walkthrough\">Wind Fish\u2019s Egg Walkthrough<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"wind-fishrs-egg-climbing-mount-tamaranch-and-entering-the-egg\">Wind Fish\u2019s Egg: Climbing Mount Tamaranch and Entering the Egg<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Climbing the ladder to Mount Tamaranch\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/d761e3eced892\/climbing-the-ladder-to-mount-tamaranch.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/d761e3eced892\/climbing-the-ladder-to-mount-tamaranch.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Climbing the ladder to Mount Tamaranch\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>The path to Mount Tamaranch can be found up the first ladder by the cliffs above Manbo\u2019s Pond. This is where you should follow the sequence of directions you read in the \u201cDark Secrets and Mysteries of Koholint\u201d (again, as mentioned above, these are generated when starting the game, so you will have to read them yourself in the Mabe Village library).<\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Link falls towards the final boss' chamber\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/68f709804d6a2\/link-falls-towards-the-final-boss-chamber.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/68f709804d6a2\/link-falls-towards-the-final-boss-chamber.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Link falls towards the final boss' chamber\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>If you follow the correct sequence of directions, the ninth room will contain a hole in the ground and you will hear a chime confirming that you\u2019re in the right place. Step into the abyss to enter the boss chamber.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"defeating-the-shadow-nightmare\">Defeating the Shadow Nightmare<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"The Shadow Nightmare makes its appearance\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/10d839ce8718a\/the-shadow-nightmare-makes-its-appearance.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/10d839ce8718a\/the-shadow-nightmare-makes-its-appearance.900x.jpg\" alt=\"The Shadow Nightmare makes its appearance\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>As you arrive in the boss\u2019 chamber, a voice calls out to you:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We were born of nightmares\u2026<br \/>To take over this world, we made the Wind Fish sleep endlessly!<br \/>If the Wind Fish doesn\u2019t wake up, this island will never disappear!<br \/>We would have been the masters of this place\u2026<br \/>But you had to come here and disrupt our plans!<br \/>Heh heh! You can never defeat us!<br \/>Let&#8217;s rumble!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Something pitch black forms below Link\u2019s feet and sneaks to the opposite side of the room, reconstituting itself into a ball of darkness and shadow \u2013 this is the Shadow Nightmare, and its gimmick will be to take the form of familiar enemies and bosses across five forms, each with a different attack pattern and weakness.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Link uses magic powder against the shadow nightmare's first form\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/8dafd99d4b173\/link-uses-magic-powder-against-the-shadow-nightmares-first-form.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/8dafd99d4b173\/link-uses-magic-powder-against-the-shadow-nightmares-first-form.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Link uses magic powder against the shadow nightmare's first form\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>The first form bounces around the room like a Zol (the common blob enemy), however it is apparently impervious to all of your weaponry (simply disappearing with no sign of a hit). Your key tool is your magic powder. Chuck some powder as it lands and it will soon take on its second form.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Link deflects a ball magic back against the shadow nightmare's second form\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/c5f311eded9a3\/link-deflects-a-ball-magic-back-against-the-shadow-nightmares-second-form.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/c5f311eded9a3\/link-deflects-a-ball-magic-back-against-the-shadow-nightmares-second-form.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Link deflects a ball magic back against the shadow nightmare's second form\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>The second form is the shadow of Link to the Past\u2019s Agahnim \u2013 he will throw a red ball of magic at you which can be deflected back with your sword, provided you are facing the shadow. Sometimes four smaller magic balls will be thrown your way \u2013 these cannot be deflected and should be dodged\/jumped instead.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Link swipes at the tail of the shadow nightmare's third form\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/720478aa87c4b\/link-swipes-at-the-tail-of-the-shadow-nightmares-third-form.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/720478aa87c4b\/link-swipes-at-the-tail-of-the-shadow-nightmares-third-form.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Link swipes at the tail of the shadow nightmare's third form\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>The third form is a repeat of the Moldorm miniboss, though it is stronger overall and moves quicker in its critical phase. Hit the end of its tail to send it packing.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Link executes a dash attack on the shadow nightmare's fourth form\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2801a538f18e5\/link-executes-a-dash-attack-on-the-shadow-nightmares-fourth-form.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2801a538f18e5\/link-executes-a-dash-attack-on-the-shadow-nightmares-fourth-form.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Link executes a dash attack on the shadow nightmare's fourth form\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Form number four is the Shadow of Ganon. He will twirl his double-ended trident and summon several blazing bats for Link to dodge. Once the bats have been avoided, he will throw the trident, spinning it in place \u2013 use this opportunity to aim a pegasus boot-enabled dash attack straight at him.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Link uses a spin attack against the shadow nightmare's fifth form\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/38cb7ea9df564\/link-uses-a-spin-attack-against-the-shadow-nightmares-fifth-form.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/38cb7ea9df564\/link-uses-a-spin-attack-against-the-shadow-nightmares-fifth-form.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Link uses a spin attack against the shadow nightmare's fifth form\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>In the fifth phase, the shadow nightmare returns to a blob-like form, leaving a trail behind it as it slides across the floor. Charge a spin attack to damage it.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"defeating-the-final-bossrs-final-form-dethl\">Defeating the Final Boss\u2019s Final Form, Dethl<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"picture strip\"><a title=\"Link fires an arrow into the giant eye of the shadow nightmare's final form\" href=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2c2d6c18e0628\/link-fires-an-arrow-into-the-giant-eye-of-the-shadow-nightmares-final-form.original.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/static.nintendolife.com\/blank.gif\" data-original=\"http:\/\/images.nintendolife.com\/2c2d6c18e0628\/link-fires-an-arrow-into-the-giant-eye-of-the-shadow-nightmares-final-form.900x.jpg\" alt=\"Link fires an arrow into the giant eye of the shadow nightmare's final form\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Finally, the shadow will take on its ultimate form \u2013 a huge, usually closed eye set in a large body with two spiked arms that sweep up and down. The goal is to wait for the eye to open and shoot it with an arrow (or the boomerang) while jumping over the arms as they move.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve done enough damage, the defeated Shadow Nightmare will mournfully say:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This island is going to disappear\u2026<br \/>Our world is going to disappear\u2026<br \/>Our world\u2026<br \/>Our\u2026 world\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"ending-cutscenes\">Ending Cutscenes<\/h3>\n<p>And that\u2019s it \u2013 you\u2019ve completed Link\u2019s Awakening. The Owl calls to you, unseen:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u2026Link, you have beaten all the Nightmares!<br \/>Climb the stairs before you!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Stairs appear at the top of the screen and you automatically climb them. The Owl hovers above a platform in a starry sky.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Hoot!<br \/>Young lad\u2026 I mean, Link, the hero! The credits roll.<\/p>\n<h4>Bonus Scene<\/h4>\n<p>If you managed to complete the game without dying (being revived by the secret medicine is allowed), you will see a smiling Marin against the sky, singing the Ballad of the Wind Fish.
