{"id":101007,"date":"2019-09-27T20:07:00","date_gmt":"2019-09-27T20:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.gamasutra.com\/view\/news\/351302"},"modified":"2019-09-27T20:07:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-27T20:07:00","slug":"rockstar-wants-to-capture-the-appeal-of-rdr-2s-single-player-in-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sickgaming.net\/blog\/2019\/09\/27\/rockstar-wants-to-capture-the-appeal-of-rdr-2s-single-player-in-online\/","title":{"rendered":"Rockstar wants to capture the appeal of RDR 2&#8217;s single player in Online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><big><em><strong>\u201cWith <\/strong><\/em><strong>Red Dead Online <\/strong><em><strong>we are continuing to build and expand to match the world we created for <\/strong><\/em><strong>Red Dead Redemption 2<\/strong><em><strong>\u2019s story.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/big><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; Red Dead Online producer Tarek&nbsp;Hamad\u200b discusses the scale the&nbsp;<\/em>Online<em>&nbsp;team eventually wants the mode to reach.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Open-world online modes have become the lifeblood of Rockstar Games\u2019 flagship titles, so much so that the studio\u2019s post-launch focus of its latest game looks to involve its multiplayer significantly more than its single player side.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vg247.com\/2019\/09\/27\/red-dead-redemption-2-dlc\/\">VG247 spoke with several members<\/a> of the <em>Red Dead<\/em> development team at Rockstar to get a feel for how new changes to the landscape of<em> Red Dead Online <\/em>are playing out while also, in a roundabout way, discussing the studio\u2019s plans for its single player mode.<\/p>\n<p><em>Red Dead Redemption 2<\/em>\u2019s single player campaign on its own is a massive undertaking, and the online mode lets players explore that same world as a pseudo-massively multiplayer online game with its own characters, goals, and updates.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the team&#8217;s plan is to \u201cbring everything that a player can love about single player into the online world,\u201d according to Rockstar\u2019s Kate Pica, and flesh out <em>Red Dead Online <\/em>as a whole in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The idea that Rockstar would pour its efforts into <em>Red Dead Online (<\/em>and seemingly try to encourage those enamored with the single player story to branch into <em>Online<\/em>) isn\u2019t a surprising one, especially when considering the similar approach taken with 2013\u2019s <em>Grand Theft Auto V.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Much like<em> Red Dead Redemption 2<\/em>, <em>GTAV<\/em> shipped with a sizable single player campaign and later opened up an online mode set in the same world. Single player DLC was rumored, but instead&nbsp;<em>Grand Theft Auto Online<\/em>&nbsp;took off and the game\u2019s new content came in the form of sizable updates to what it&nbsp;offers.
