A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS<\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

The days have become indecipherable. This harsh plane of existence bears only Darkness and cold\u2014two things I\u2019ve become reacquainted with since my banishment to this hellscape. No matter where I run, the glowing orb follows. It stalks me.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve taken to quietly humming a tune to stave off the madness. I don\u2019t enjoy it, but it helps. It\u2019s worked before, when I was trapped beneath the Moon\u2019s surface. Taken and Hive run rampant here. Around every corner. I\u2019m in no shape to defend myself. My mind fights to stay alert. I just need to rest. Just a little\u2026<\/p>\n

A bright light awakens me. That glowing orb? Its radiance calls out to me. <\/p>\n

No. Stop it. I\u2019m losing my grip again. Hum the song.<\/p>\n

\u201cEris!\u201d<\/p>\n

You\u2019re making it up. Or worse. It\u2019s the Witch again.<\/p>\n

\u201cEris!\u201d <\/p>\n

The orb approaches. Could it be?<\/p>\n

I stand to meet the light. And I collapse into darkness.<\/p>\n

I am awake, I believe\u2014though this feels like a dream.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou encountered the Witch-Queen and survived.\u201d<\/p>\n

I am not sure if this conversation with Toland is real or a figment of my imagination. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m no closer to discovering their machinations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTell me, what did she say?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was riddles\u2026 taunts. She used you, all of you, perverting your voices\u2026 I was close to something. Beneath the surface. Slumbering.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIntriguing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Either way, I am in need of an exit. I must continue, no matter the pain.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere do you think you\u2019re going? You\u2019re in no shape to move.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to. I need to.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAre you telling yourself this to motivate, or are you blinded by your obsession?\u201d<\/p>\n

Now I am sure he is real. <\/p>\n

\u201cAren\u2019t you curious what was slumbering down there? I know I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

He piques my interest. I\u2019ll allow this momentary reprieve.<\/p>\n

\u201cGo on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur time in the Hellmouth\u2026 requires further examination. I\u2019ve often thought back to our glorious failure. Something has never sat right with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI imagine dying would leave one unsettled.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTrue, but this lies beyond that void. Our fireteam was comprised of some of the best to ever wield the Light, and yet we were eviscerated with ease.\u201d<\/p>\n

 \u201cThey had weapons\u2026 we were not prepared.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile true, does the circumstance not bother you?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt haunts me to this day. I hesitate to believe anything She would say.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut why would She say anything at all?\u201d<\/p>\n

Why indeed.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026She means to guide me, Toland.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not play into Her hand.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou lend credence to Her riddles. We must know the truth, no matter the cost.\u201d<\/p>\n

A flash of light, and once again I cannot see. I hear Toland call out to me, but I am pulled from him, from there.  <\/p>\n

It\u2019s warm now. And bright. So bright.<\/p>\n

I can feel their guns on me. <\/p>\n
